Setting retraction parameters in different slicing software for M5/M5C
Function description

During FDM printing, inappropriate retraction settings can lead to issues such as filament stringing, material shortage, or even blockage. We can avoid the risk of stringing or blockage by setting the retraction parameters to the correct values suitable for the machine.

Common Scenarios

  • Stringing or Material Shortage: During the printing process, adjust the retraction length. Generally, increasing the retraction length can help, and the length value should be adjusted according to the extrusion capacity of the extruder.
  • Clogging: During the printing process, if you encounter a clogging problem, it is necessary to adjust the retraction length appropriately.

How to use

Here are several common ways to set up the retracement function in 3D printing software:

  1. AnkerMake Studio
  • Open the AnkerMake Studio software and find the settings icon on the right side of the interface as shown in the figure.

Select the "Extruder" group in the pop-up interface, modify the "Length" and "Retraction Speed" to the recommended values of 0.8 and 60, and then click Save.

Bambu Lab

  • Open Bambu Studio software, click "New Project" or go to the "Prepare" interface.

  • Click the "Modify" icon to enter the machine settings interface.

  • Select "Extruder" in the pop-up interface, then find and modify "Length" and "Retraction Speed" to the recommended values of 0.8 and 60, and then click Save.

  1. Cura
  • Open Cura and find the "Travel" tab in the "Print Settings" interface

  • Under the "Travel" tab, modify "Retraction Distance" and "Retraction Retract Speed" to the recommended values of 0.8 and 60. Keep the retraction speed consistent with the backfill speed

  1. Prusa
  • Open the Prusa software and click on the "Printer Setting" or "Expert" icon on the right side of the interface, as shown in the figure.

  • In the pop-up interface, select "Extruder 1" on the left, then modify "Retraction Length" and "Retraction Speed" to the recommended values of 0.8 and 60, and then click Save.

  1. ideaMaker
  • Open the ideaMaker interface and click the Start widget on the left side of the interface.

  • Click the settings control shown in the figure on the pop-up interface

Select the "Extruder" group, modify "Retraction Speed" and "Retraction Material Amount" to the recommended values of 60 and 0.8, and then click "OK".

  1. Simplify3D
  • Open Simplify3D and click the "Add" control under "Processes."

  • In the pop-up interface, select the "Extruder" group, modify "Retraction Distance" and "Retraction Speed" to the recommended values of 0.8 and 1800, and click "OK".
