How to Replace the Throat Cooling Fan for the M5 Printer
Identifying Issues:
- The fan is noisy.
- The fan is not working.
- Frequent blockages and under-extrusion occur at the hot end.
Method of Replacement:
- Prepare the Printer:
- Turn on the M5 switch.
- Click Control > Move on the screen to raise the Z-axis of the nozzle assembly by 200mm and move it to the middle of the X-axis for easy access.
- Ensure the filament has been retracted and turn off the power. Wait for the hotend to cool down.
Remove the Nozzle Assembly Covers:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the 4 bolts on the back of the nozzle assembly.
- Move the top cover and nozzle cover of the nozzle assembly up along the type-C cable and secure them.
Remove the Bottom Cover:
- Use an H2.0 wrench to loosen the front bottom cover bolts and remove the bottom cover.
Remove the Model Cooling Fan:
- Use the H2.0 wrench to loosen the two screws of the front model cooling fan.
- Pull out the left and right model cooling fan cables respectively, and remove the cooling fan part.
Remove the Throat Cooling Fan:
- Use an H1.5 wrench to unscrew the air guide and unplug the motor cable of the throat cooling fan.
- Use the H2.0 wrench to loosen the three screws of the right throat cooling fan of the extruder and remove the throat cooling fan.
- Install the New Throat Cooling Fan:
- Use an H2.0 wrench to insert and tighten the new throat cooling fan with 3 fixing bolts (pay attention to the direction of the fan), and plug in the throat fan power cable.
- Reassemble the Air Guide and Model Cooling Fan:
- Tighten the screws of the air guide with an H1.5 wrench.
- Secure the model cooling fan with an H2.0 wrench.
- Reattach the Covers:
- Secure the front bottom cover with an H2.0 wrench.
- Move the nozzle cover and top cover of the nozzle assembly down along the type-C cable and secure them.
- Use the H2.0 wrench to tighten the 4 screws on the back of the nozzle assembly to complete the replacement of the throat cooling fan.
