How to Replace the Extruder
Abnormal Phenomena
- The nozzle isn't printing normally.
- Poor print quality of the workpiece.
- Replacing other components (such as, hot ends, fans) does not solve the print quality problem.
Replacement Steps
- Prepare the Printer:
- Turn on the M5, click Control > Move on the screen to raise the Z-axis of the nozzle assembly by 200mm, and move it to the middle of the X-axis for easy replacement.
- Ensure the filament has been removed and turn off the power. Wait for the hotend to cool down before proceeding.
Remove the PTFE Guide Tube:
- Press and hold the pneumatic connector of the guide tube on the nozzle assembly and pull out the PTFE guide tube.
Disconnect the Type-C Cable:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the 2 bolts of the Type-C cable on the nozzle assembly and pull out the Type-C cable.
Remove the Nozzle Assembly Cover:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the 4 bolts on the back of the nozzle assembly and remove the top cover and nozzle cover.
Remove the Bottom Cover:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the front bottom cover bolts and remove the bottom cover.
Disconnect the Left E-Axis Motor Wire:
- Pull out the left E-axis motor wire.
Detach the X-Axis Belt Retainer:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the 2 bolts of the left X-axis belt retainer and separate it from the nozzle assembly.
Separate the Nozzle Assembly:
- Use an M8 open wrench to secure the bottom lock nut and use an H3.0 hex wrench to loosen the lower V-wheel of the back panel counterclockwise to separate the nozzle assembly.
Prepare the New Nozzle Assembly:
- Remove the new nozzle assembly and use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the 4 bolts on the back of the nozzle assembly.
Disassemble the New Nozzle Assembly:
- Remove the head assembly cover and nozzle cover.
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to loosen the front bottom cover bolts and remove the bottom cover.
- Install the New Nozzle Assembly:
- Secure the bottom lock nut with an M8 open wrench and loosen the lower V-wheel of the back panel counterclockwise with an H3.0 hex wrench, then fix the nozzle assembly on the X-axis.
- Pull the left E-axis motor wire and tighten the 2 bolts of the left X-axis belt retaining block with an H2.0 hex wrench.
- Move the nozzle assembly left and right to check for shaking or noise. If there is shaking or noise, use an M10 wrench to adjust the lower eccentric nut and verify again.
Reconnect Components:
- Insert the left E-axis motor wire and use an H2.0 wrench to fix the front bottom cover.
- Install the nozzle cover and upper cover of the nozzle assembly and tighten the back 4 bolts of the nozzle assembly with an H2.0 wrench.
- Insert the Type-C cable and use an H2.0 hexagonal wrench to tighten the 2 bolts of the Type-C cable on the nozzle assembly.
- Insert the PTFE guide tube into the pneumatic connector. Complete the nozzle assembly replacement.
Note:
- Handle the nozzle at high temperatures with caution to avoid burns.
