How to Replace the Nozzle on M5

When to Replace the Nozzle

  1. Nozzle Blockage: The material cannot be extruded from the nozzle even after cleaning.
  2. Nozzle Wear: The nozzle part is worn, resulting in poor surface quality of the printed workpiece.

Replacement Steps

Step 1: Preheat the Nozzle

  1. Turn on the M5 switch and preheat the nozzle to 180°C.

Step 2: Retract the Filament

  1. Click Control > Extrude > Retract on the right shoulder screen to pull the filament out from the left shoulder.
  2. If pulling out is difficult, press and hold the extrusion clip (marked below) on the nozzle assembly and pull out the filament simultaneously.

Step 3: Raise the Z-Axis

  1. On the screen, click Control > Move to raise the Z-axis of the nozzle assembly by 200mm.
  2. Move the nozzle assembly to the middle of the X-axis for easy replacement, turn off the power, and wait for the hotend to cool down.

Step 4: Remove the Nozzle Assembly Cover

  1. Use a 2.0mm hex wrench to loosen the 4 bolts on the back of the nozzle assembly.

  1. Move the top cover and nozzle cover of the nozzle assembly up with the Type-C cable and secure it.

Step 5: Remove the Bottom Cover

  1. Use a 2.0mm wrench to loosen the front bottom cover bolt and remove the bottom cover.

Step 6: Remove the Old Nozzle

  1. From the toolbox select the socket wrench. Use the socket wrench to unscrew the nozzle clockwise.
    1. Use pliers to hold the heating block while twisting off the nozzle. Be careful not to touch the hotend to prevent burns.

Step 7: Install the New Nozzle

  1. Place the new nozzle into the thread and tighten it counterclockwise.

Step 8: Reassemble the Nozzle Assembly

  1. Turn off the power and wait for the hotend to cool to room temperature.
  2. Use a 2.0mm hex wrench to fix the bottom cover.
  3. Reattach the extruder cover and top cover.
  4. Use a 2.0mm hex wrench to tighten the four fixing bolts on the back to secure the extruder housing.

Step 9: Reload the Filament

  1. Insert the filament from the left shoulder until it reaches the extruder.
    1. If there is a blockage, press and hold the extrusion clip (marked in the figure below) and insert the filament again until it encounters resistance.

Step 10: Test the New Nozzle

  1. Turn on the device power switch.
  2. Click Control > Extrude > Extrude. After waiting for the temperature to reach, check the extrusion of the filament to ensure continuous and uniform extrusion.

Tips

  • When replacing the nozzle at high temperatures, be careful to avoid burns.
  • Ensure vertical installation when installing the new nozzle.
