How to Replace the X-Axis Motor for M5
Identifying Issues:
- X-axis motor printing misalignment (layer shifts).
- X-axis motor does not rotate.
Method of Replacement:
- Remove the Right Shoulder Shell Back Cover:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to remove the three bolts on the back cover and the two bolts at the bottom front end of the M5's right shoulder shell.
Remove the Right Shoulder Rear Shell Cover Plate:
- Use the H2.0 hex wrench to remove the four bolts that fix the front shell of the right shoulder internally.
Disconnect Wires:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to remove the ground wire connection bolts, the two TYPE-C wire bolts, and pull out the TYPE-C wire.
Unplug X-Axis Motor Wire and FCC Cable:
- Unplug the X-axis motor wire and the FCC cable.
Remove the Motor Cover and Motor:
- Use an H2.0 hex wrench to remove the two motor cover screws and the four motor fixing screws.
Remove the X-Axis Motor Module:
- Loosen the belt tensioner with an H2.5 hex wrench and remove the X-axis motor module.
Remove the X-Axis Motor:
- Use the H2.0 hex wrench to remove the four fixed bolts of the X-axis motor and remove the X-axis motor.
- Install the New Motor:
- Replace the old motor with a new one and install the motor retaining screws with an H2.0 hex wrench.
- Attach the X-Axis Belt:
- Clip the X-axis belt into the X-axis motor timing wheel, use the H2.0 hex wrench to install the motor cover plate and fix the screws.
- Adjust Belt Tension:
- Use the H2.5 hex wrench to re-adjust the X-axis belt tensioner screws.
- Use the H2.0 hex wrench to install the motor cover plate.
- Reconnect Wires:
- Insert the X-axis motor cable and the FCC cable.
- Insert the TYPE-C wire and install the TYPE-C wire fastening bolts using an H2.0 hex wrench.
- Secure Ground Wire:
- Use the H2.0 hex wrench to secure the ground wire and lock the bolts.
- Reinstall Covers:
- Install the front cover with an H2.0 hex wrench and install the screen cover screwdriver.
- Use the H2.0 wrench to lock the right shoulder back cover and bottom housing bolts to complete the X-axis motor replacement.
