How to Replace the Hotend of M5C

When to Replace the Hot End

  1. When heating tubes, thermistors, or other accessories are damaged.
  2. When hot end overflow cannot be cleaned up, affecting the normal use of the equipment.

Replacement Steps

Disassembly

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Open the mobile app, connect to the device, enter the Control > Extrusion menu, click the nozzle to set the preheating temperature according to the filament, and then click the "Retract" button.

  1. If the filament cannot be retracted, press the pneumatic interface on the nozzle assembly, pull out the Teflon tube, and use the side cutters to cut the filament.

  1. Turn off the printer power.
  2. Use a 2.0mm hex wrench to unscrew the Type-C wire fixing bolt and pull out the Type-C wire.

  1. Pull up and remove the front shell and top shell of the extruder.

  1. Disconnect the strain gauge terminals.

  1. Use a 2.0mm hex wrench to unscrew the four front-end fixing bolts of the extruder (two on each side) and remove the extruder assembly.

  1. Disconnect the heating tube and thermistor terminals.

  1. When the temperature drops to room temperature (around 30°C), remove the silicone cover.

  1. Use a 1.5mm hex wrench to unscrew the two hot end retaining bolts and pull out the hot end assembly.

Installation

  1. Insert the new hot end assembly into the heat sink and tighten the two hot end fixing bolts with a 1.5mm hex wrench.

  1. Place the silicone sleeve onto the hot end assembly.
  2. Reconnect the heating rod and thermistor terminals.
  3. Reinstall the extruder components and use a 2.0mm hex wrench to tighten the four front-end fixing bolts of the extruder (two on each side).
  4. Reconnect the strain gauge terminal.
  5. Cover the front shell and top shell of the extruder.
  6. Insert the Type-C wire and tighten the Type-C retaining screws with a 2.0mm hex wrench.
  7. Pass the Teflon tube from the back of the Type-C connector, insert the Teflon tube, and fasten the clip.

  1. Turn on the device and perform automatic leveling again (refer to video and text guide: M5C Hot Bed Auto Leveling Operation).
  2. After leveling is completed, start a new print job.
