How to Fix the M5C Printer’s Extruder Failing to Extrude Filaments

Features and Description

When extruding, the filament slips, and the extruder idles (makes a rotating sound) without extruding material. Severe grinding can lead to no extrusion, while slight grinding can cause insufficient extrusion.

Note: Grinding requires disassembling the extruder component and cleaning the excess filament under the extruder gear, as debris can impact print quality.

Reasons, Checks, and Solutions

1. Filament Winding or Bending

Check: Verify if the filament is knotted or excessively bent. Solution: Untangle the filament and straighten any bends. It is recommended to install the filament rack in the lower left corner and rotate the filament clockwise to reduce resistance.

2. Extrusion Spring Tension

Check: Determine if pressing the extrusion clip on the left side is difficult, which can cause filament wear due to overly tight extrusion gears.

Solution: Use a hexagonal wrench to adjust the tension of the extrusion spring on the right side of the figure.

3. Nozzle Blockage

Check: After cutting off the ground section of the filament and reinserting it into the extruder, check if the filament still does not extrude through Control > Extrude. Solution:

  • Clean the Nozzle: Heat the nozzle to 180°C, insert a through-hole needle, and stir. Manually extrude the filament until it flows smoothly.
  • Replace the Nozzle: Heat the nozzle to 180°C and use a socket wrench to replace it.

4. Heat Dissipation Issues

A. Throat Cooling Fan Malfunction:Check: Heat the nozzle to 180°C, retract the filament through Control > Extrude > Retract, press the extrusion clip to pull out the filament, and check if the filament diameter has increased (indicating softening). Solution: Replace the throat cooling fan.

B. High Ambient Temperature:Check: Ensure the ambient temperature for the M5 and M5C meets the equipment requirements (recommended 15-35°C/59-95°F).

Solution: Place the M5 and M5C in a suitable temperature environment.

5. Incorrect Retraction Parameters

A. Incorrect Model Selection:Solution: Select the model corresponding to the device when slicing, as M5 and M5C have different retraction settings.

B. Improper Retraction Settings:Solution: For models with metal throats, the retraction distance should not exceed 1mm.
