"Device is Busy": Causes & How to Resume Printing

When you initiate a Print / Snapshot / Auto Measuring / Calibration operation in eufyMake Studio, you may see the prompt "Device is Busy", which prevents the operation from continuing.

This usually means the device is not currently in an Idle (ready) state. Instead, it is either performing another process or is in a condition that must be completed or resolved first. This article will help you understand what the device may be doing, which situations will block operations, and how to return the device to a printable state.

1. When Does "Device is Busy" Appear?

The prompt will appear whenever the device is in a non-Idle state. You can check the exact status on the Device Page, where more detailed information about the current operation is displayed.

1) Preparing to Print

Before printing begins, the device completes several preparation steps:

  • Taking snapshots (capturing the print area for positioning)

  • Auto measuring (rotary object dimensions and position)

  • Height measuring (material thickness)

  • Transmitting the file (uploading/downloading)

  • Ready to print (waiting for user confirmation)

During any of these stages, the device is considered busy, and new operations cannot be started.

2) Printing / Printing Paused

When the device is actively printing, all other operations are blocked. This includes:

  • Printing in progress

  • Pre-print priming (printhead preparation)

If printing is paused:

  • It may be paused manually or due to a recoverable issue (e.g. low ink)

  • The device remains busy until you resume or end the current task

3) Performing Maintenance

To maintain printhead performance, the device may run maintenance operations such as:

  • Flash Clean / Medium Clean / Deep Clean

  • Ink injection

  • Automatic maintenance (auto clean, auto deep clean, auto moisturizing)

The device remains busy throughout these processes. You must wait for them to complete before printing or calibrating.

4) Maintenance Status: Ink Injection Required

After deep cleaning or moisturizing, the printhead remains in a soaking state.

In this condition:

  • The device will not allow printing or calibration

  • You must complete Inject Ink before continuing

You may see prompts such as:

  • "The printhead remains in deep cleaning state. Please inject ink before printing."

  • "The printhead remains in moisturizing state. Please inject ink before printing."

5) Maintenance Paused

If a maintenance task is interrupted, the device may display:

  • Maintenance Paused

  • A prompt to tap Continue

To avoid affecting future prints, you should complete the maintenance task first. Once finished, the device returns to a normal state.

6) Calibrating

The device may be performing calibration tasks, such as:

  • Self-check

  • Camera calibration

  • Zero-point calibration

These processes require exclusive control of the device, so no other operations can be started until they are complete.

7) Initializing

After first setup or a factory reset, the device must complete initialization in the App. During this process, printing and calibration are not available.

8) Firmware Updating

The device may be:

  • Downloading firmware

  • Installing firmware

During this time:

  • All operations are disabled

  • Power and network must not be interrupted

9) Factory Resetting

During a factory reset:

  • The process takes approximately 10 minutes

  • The device will restart automatically

All operations are unavailable until the reset is complete.

10) Offline or Unavailable

These states also prevent operations:

  • Offline:

    • Device is powered off or disconnected from the network

  • Unavailable:

    • Caused by consumable issues (e.g. empty ink) or system faults

    • Usually accompanied by an error code and instructions

You must resolve the issue shown on the Device Page before continuing.

3. How to Check What the Device Is Currently Busy With

When "Device is Busy" appears:

  1. Go to the Device Page and check:

    1. Main status (e.g. Printing, Maintenance, Calibrating)

    2. Sub-status (e.g. snapshot, file transfer, firmware update)

    3. Progress bar and available actions (Cancel / Continue / Inject Ink)

  2. Take action based on what you see:

    1. If a task is running → wait for completion

    2. If input is required → follow the prompt (Continue / Inject Ink / Retry)

Once complete, the device returns to Idle, and you can start your operation again.

4. Still Unable to Recover? Troubleshooting Tips

If the device does not return to Idle:

  • Check whether it is stuck on a status with no progress

  • Look for prompts requiring action (Maintenance Paused / Initialization / Unavailable)

  • Check for network issues and refresh the Device Page if needed

If the issue persists, contact eufyMake Customer Support and provide:

  • Screenshot of the Device Page

  • Time the issue occurred

  • Operation attempted

  • Device logs
