Replacing the Extruder Tension Arm Assembly M5

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare the Printer:
    1. Turn on the M5 switch.
    2. Click Control > Move on the screen to raise the Z-axis of the nozzle assembly by 200mm and move it to the middle of the X-axis for easy replacement.
    3. Make sure the consumables are removed and turn off the power. Wait for the hotend to cool down for easy replacement.

Loosen Nozzle Assembly Bolts:

  • Use a 2.0 hex wrench to loosen the 2 bolts on the back of the nozzle assembly.
  • Press the pneumatic connector to pull out the PTFE guide tube.

 

Move Top and Nozzle Cover:

  • Move the top cover and nozzle cover of the nozzle assembly up along with the Type-C line and secure them.

Disconnect Wires:

  • Pull out the extrusion motor wire and the extruder cooling fan wire. Note: the terminal has glue, remove the glue first and then pull it out.

Remove Extruder Assembly:

  • Use a 2.0 hex wrench to loosen the screws fixing the extruder (1 in the front and 3 in the back).

Remove Cooling Fan:

  • Remove the entire extruder assembly upward.
  • Use a 2.0 hex wrench to remove the 3 screws fixing the cooling fan and remove the throat cooling fan.

 

Loosen Retaining Screws:

  • Use a 2.5 hex wrench to loosen the retaining screws of the tension arm.

 

Separate Gearbox:

  • Use a 2.0 hex wrench to loosen the two fixed screws of the extrusion gearbox and separate the extrusion gearbox. Note: Be careful with small parts like bearings.

 

Remove Tension Arm Shaft:

  • Use a 1.5 hex wrench to loosen the screws of the fixed tension arm shaft.

  1. Use the same hex wrench to push the tension arm shaft out and separate the tension arm from the gearbox.

Install New Tension Arm:

  • Install the new tension arm to the gearbox via the spindle.
  • Lock the spindle screws with a 1.5 hex wrench.

 

Reassemble Gearbox:

  • Fix the 2 screws of the extrusion gearbox with a 2.0 hex wrench and combine the extrusion gearbox.

Secure Tension Arm Screws:

  • Secure the screws of the tension arm with a 2.5 hex wrench.

 

Reattach Cooling Fan:

  • Tighten the 3 screws of the cooling fan with a 2.0 hex wrench and fix the throat cooling fan.

 

Install Extruder Assembly:

  • Install the extruder assembly components back to the hot end.
  • Fix the extruder assembly with a 2.0 hex wrench, securing the screws (1 in the front and 3 in the back).

 

Reconnect Wires:

  • Plug in the extrusion motor wire and the throat cooling fan wire.

 

Reattach Nozzle Cover:

  • Install the nozzle cover and the nozzle cover plate downward.
  • Insert the PTFE tube and lock the nozzle cover with a 2.0 wrench to fix the screws (both types of middle shells in the nozzle assembly can be used).
